Best Pheasant Hunt SD
We have been hunting at the Wagon Wheel Ranch with our company for many years, and recently started fishing with them as well. The lodge is not only beautiful, but very comfortable, the food is amazing, and the hundreds and hundreds of birds we see every year are unbelievable! The guides are fun and very helpful with all of our guests. Once we arrive at the lodge, they pretty much take care of us from that point on. The boats are very clean, well maintained, and roomy, and we caught many fish each day. The sunsets on the porches are something I wish everyone could see! The Wagon Wheel Ranch is truly a special place, and for anyone looking to experience a trip of a lifetime with their friends, family, or company, should look no further than this wonderful family operation!

Pheasant Hunting South Dakota
When I reflect on some of the greatest hunting experiences of my life, not to mention some of the best days I experience all year long, the setting for these memories is often just outside Kimball, SD and the outstanding people at Wagon Wheel Ranch. A Fall pheasant hunt at WWR has been an annual ritual for our group for over a decade now. We anxiously return each and every year in anticipation of the exceptional hospitality of the owners and staff- Maureen’s fantastic cooking, great lodging facilities and related services are hallmarks of the WWR experience. When it’s time to go afield, the opportunity to hunt a wide variety of pheasant habitats holding tremendous numbers of birds have always resulted in successful “bag limit” hunts. These hunting conditions, combined with Curt and Michael’s expert guiding and consistently great dog work simply have to be experienced to be believed.
Ours is not a corporate outing, but an annual hunting vacation comprised of good friends, fathers and sons and brothers. Every one of us made our first trip to the Wagon Wheel focused on experiencing the incredible, quintessential South Dakota pheasant hunting experience- We were not disappointed! The motivation for our return trips, just as importantly, comes back to the friendships and camaraderie that can only be experienced at a destination as special and welcoming as the WWR. It’s been our pleasure to witness their consistent re-investment in the WWR facilities and hunting habitat over the years, in an effort to continuously enhance the hunting experience for their guests. I think I can speak for our entire group when I say that I highly recommend the WWR to anyone interested in starting or improving upon your own South Dakota hunting experience. Or, in the words of one of our own (a lifelong and well-travelled hunter) - “Curt, Maureen, Michael and the rest of the team run the BEST pheasant hunting operation on the planet- GREAT FOOD, EXCELLENT ACCOMODATIONS and the BEST GUIDES AND DOGS… Plus, lots of birds! What else could a hunter want?”

Pheasant Hunt
Wagon Wheel Ranch delivers an outstanding pheasant hunting experience. Our group of 12-14 hunters has been going there for 13 years and we always have a grand time. It’s a fun atmosphere, there are always plenty of birds, the lodge is comfortable and the food is delicious. Best of all, it is a family run operation and they have always made us feel like we’re a part of the family. Take your group. You’ll have a ball. David Dempsey - Atlanta, GA

Spring 2009 - Miller, Sd
I took my german shorthair down to have her trained. They had her for 3 months and she was everything that I had hope she would be. Here I am, my dog is now 7 years old, and I am starting to look at future puppies and the one I decide on will definitely be coming back here. I couldn't imagine anyone else training a dog this good. Great people and great service makes a great dog. Thanks for the great hunting experience I have received for the last 7 years because of your training. Jay
Fall 2013 - Kimball, SD
Thank you for a wonderful hunt. The lodging, hunting and food were all outstanding. However, the thing that makes it such a great experience is the way we were treated by Curt, Maureen and Michael. We did the last weekend of the season pheasant hunt. The number of birds was unbelievable. One of the last places we hunted had an estimated 500 hens. This is primarily because of the excellent management of the property. Thanks again.

Another fantastic experience! Thanks Curt, Maureen & Michael. Y'all got this hunting thing down pat.
Since the beginning - Paducah, Ky.
WANA HAVE FUN? DON'T GO HERE, CAUSE WE HAVE A BLAST!!!!! Not only a blast shooting pheasants, but a blast the whole time we are here. Curt, Maureen, Michael see to it that this will be a hunt you will remember. Even if you are like our group of seasoned hunters or just getting started, this trip is well worth your money. Not only will you get lots of shooting but have three or more of Maureen's home cooked meals and believe me, she can cook, unless she lets Michael grill steaks, chops, or whatever we've killed. These people become like family and make you feel as though you are part of theirs. As we say in Kentucky," They're good ole country people" that make you feel like you're at home. We duck hunt in Kentucky and don't have pheasants, so we look forward every year to going to Curt, Maureen, Michael's to have a BLAST! I promise, you will too!!!
“GREAT HUNTING, FUN FRIENDLY PEOPLE, WONDERFUL ACCOMODATIONS AND FOOD AT A VERY FAIR PRICE….WHAT ELSE CAN YOU ASK FOR”!!!!
“Your venue for entertaining clients is first class. My clients always comment on the quality of the lodging, the food and the total atmosphere of the Ranch. First and foremost for the people I bring is the Pheasant Hunting experience. The birds our true wild birds and there is an abundance of them. The dogs are phenomenal and watching them work is part of the total experience. The guides are a pleasure to work with and everyone goes out of their way to make the event an unforgettable experience. In addition, the added sporting clay range is a nice touch when you are back at the lodge after a full day of hunting. We have had so much fun over the years that we now have booked 2 groups a year. Again thanks for all you do and I love to hear the word ROOSTER”! WES
“I’ve been fortunate enough to hunt most of my life from Mexico to above the Arctic Circle for multiple big and small game species and spend 90+ days a year in the field. I’ve have had more than my share of experience with outfitters and have seen the good, the bad and the ugly. The fact is that if I or anyone else doesn’t have an enjoyable experience with quality people, we don’t go back. Our group has hunted pheasants for more than ten years with Curt and Maureen at the Wagon Wheel Ranch. They are hardworking honest people that provide a truly quality and memorable hunt and we have NEVER failed to bag our limit of fast flying birds. Photos show the fantastic accommodations and smiling faces but I’ll tell you that Curt, Maureen, Michael, Wren and staff are truly good friends and good people. From the excellent food to the transportation and the fields they hunt, you will be impressed and try to book your week for the following year. If you’ve never hunted over a quality brace of flushing labs or want to rekindle your passion for poetry in motion, this is an opportunity you won’t regret as Curt is a professional breeder/trainer as well. I give you my highest recommendation for them and to show you how nice they are, we’ve even had them down to our place to waterfowl hunt. I’m pleased to answer any questions you might have and good luck getting your spot reserved because their clients tend to return year after year”.

"I stopped referring to Curt as "the guy who runs the Wagon Wheel Ranch" or "the guide I hunt pheasants with" and began calling him my friend on my second trip to his ranch. That was seven trips ago. When anyone says that the people in South Dakota are the salt of the earth and the nicest, friendliest people you'll ever meet, they are talking about Curt, Maureen, Michael and the rest of their staff. To say they run a first class pheasant hunting operation is simply saying too little - from the shooting, to the accommodations, to the food, and the atmosphere. The problem with the Wagon Wheel Ranch is that you go home with a worn-out gun, sore ribs, and pants that don't fit anymore..too much good shooting, too much laughing, and too much good food." Thanks!
"Having hunted in South Dakota starting in the mid 70's and growing up in the Midwest hunting all the time, the experience of hunting at the Wagon Wheel Ranch is as authentic as my first trip to South Dakota thirty six years ago. From the rolling terrain and great cover matched with great dogs/guides and lots of pheasants we will be making our sixth consecutive trip this Fall to hunt with Curt and Maureen at the Wagon Wheel Ranch" "Most of all you have that feeling that you are going home to hunt with your family"
"Thank you for the wonderful hunting experiences over the past five years. I look forward to the next five. By the way, just because we have not booked past that, does not mean you can fill our spot. The improvements you have made are outstanding. The game room was truly a surprise. Maureen's cooking is phenomenal. I am not sure what is better, the cooking or the pheasant hunting. Regardless, the meals add to the great experience. Finally, I would like to thank you for taking care of those we have referred. It is a very comforting feeling knowing we can send people your way without any concerns. I look forward to hunting with you in the near future. Give the dogs a pat on the head for me."
